Quinta das Carvalhas, one of the most iconic estates in the Upper Douro, endowed with immense beauty. The property occupies a prominent position on the left bank of the Douro River, facing the village of Pinhão. It covers the entire hillside overlooking the river, extending to the ridge line, and occupies part of the slope on the right bank of the Torto River.
Visiting Quinta das Carvalhas is like experiencing the Douro from within – with vineyard work (such as pruning, digging, or harvesting), olive picking, and the rebuilding of traditional schist walls – all seen from the best angles of its landscape. It’s about witnessing very old vines and slopes with a 70-degree incline; admiring the Douro and Torto rivers; enjoying the fauna and flora in symbiosis. Throughout Quinta das Carvalhas, in addition to the vineyards, there are areas of woodland, forest, olive groves, and gardens, all built with ancient granite stones and schist terraces, where various species of flowers, plants, and aromatic herbs have been planted.
At the Quinta das Carvalhas wine shop, the extensive range of Douro and Porto wines from Real Companhia Velha is available for tasting or purchase. The shop also has a private room for tastings.

Álvaro Martinho is the head viticulturist at Quinta das Carvalhas. A Douro native through and through, he considers thisestate his second home and knows it like the back of his hand. Visiting Carvalhas in the company of the charismatic Álvaro will prove to be a genuinely different and unique experience in the Douro, and in the world! At Quinta das Carvalhas, there are various walking routes that can be tailored to each group, depending on age, walking preferences, and mood. Under the motto "Walking through the Douro, an unforgettable pleasure!", Real Companhia Velha invites you to enjoy a moment of leisure in perfect harmony with nature. After completing the route, celebrate with a glass of Port wine.
